Care
These are someone’s words. We treat them that way.
People send us the only copy of a recipe, and sometimes the last recording of a voice. This page is our promise about what we do with them, and what we will never do.

The promise
Their words, never invented.
Kitchenlore keeps what your family actually wrote and said. It does not write new memories, polish a quote, or fill a smudge with a likely guess.
i. Their words
Kept, checked, and marked when unclear.
- Quotes are checked word for word. Every “In her words” note is compared against the original card, memo or text. If it is not there, it is dropped, never reworded.
- Unclear spots are marked, not guessed. A word nobody can read becomes [hard to read], exactly where it sits.
- Family fills are signed. When someone fills a spot from memory, their name stays with it, and the fill looks different from the original. The book always shows what the card said and what the family remembers.
- Nothing is translated unless you ask. A card in Norwegian stays in Norwegian.
- The original is always there. The photo, the memo and the transcript stay attached to every recipe.
ii. Ownership
The family owns everything.
Your recipes, photos, memos and transcripts belong to you. We hold them to run the service and for no other reason. Books are private by default. Nobody, including other Kitchenlore users, can see a book unless its owner invites them, with a view or contribute role that can be removed at any time.
You can export everything, whenever you like, on every plan, including free: JSON of the whole account, Markdown for each book, a reading PDF, and the original photos and memos. When you delete a recipe, a book or your account, it is deleted for real, not hidden. Backups age out within 30 days.
iii. Training
Never used to train models.
Family recipes are never used to train our models or anyone else’s. The model providers we use process your recipes through their APIs, under terms that do not use API data to train their models. We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or put it in any dataset.
iv. Voices
The voices of people who have died.

Many of the memos families send us are of someone who is gone. We know what it means to hear that voice say “not like that” one more time. So we keep the recording exactly as it is, attached to the recipe, for the family to play whenever they want.
We transcribe what was said. That is all we do with a voice.
A plain promise
We will never clone a voice. We will never synthesize speech in anyone’s voice, generate new recordings, or let a model “say” something they did not say. Not as a feature, not as an experiment, not if asked.
If a family member asks us to remove a recording of their parent from a book they share, or if there is a disagreement in a family about a book, write to us. We will listen, and handle it with a person, not a script.
v. Reach us
Write to care@.
For anything sensitive (a recipe from someone who has died, a family disagreement over a book, a recording you need removed, or a request that does not fit a form), write to care@kitchentlore.com. A person on our care team reads every message and replies within two business days.
