Kitchenlore

Your data

Take it all with you. Or take it all away.

The recipes are yours. You can export every word, photo and memo whenever you like, on every plan, and when you delete something, it is gone.

i. Export

Everything, anytime.

Go to Settings, then Your data. No waiting period, no support ticket, no fee. Exports are available on the free plan too, and they stay available if you stop paying.

JSON
The whole account in one file: every book, recipe, transcript, In her words note, fill, chapter and member, in a documented, readable format.
Markdown
One file per book, every recipe as plain text with headings. Opens in any text editor, today and in thirty years.
Reading PDF
The book typeset for reading on a screen or printing at home.
Originals
The photos and voice memos you uploaded, unchanged, downloadable from each recipe.

ii. Delete

A real delete.

Delete a recipe from its page, a book from its details, or your whole account from Settings. It is not a soft delete: we do not hide the data and keep it. When you delete your account, these are removed from our database immediately:

  • Your account, email address and password hash
  • Every book you own, and every recipe in it
  • The original photos, voice memos and transcripts
  • Family fills, invitations and memberships in your books
  • Sign-in and reset tokens

Our database provider keeps encrypted backups so we can recover from a disaster. Deleted data ages out of those backups within 30 days, and we never restore deleted data from a backup into the live service.

Recipes you added to someone else’s book stay in that book, because they are part of the family’s copy. If you want them removed too, ask the book owner, or write to us and we will help.

Billing records that the law requires us to keep, such as invoices, are held by Stripe and contain no recipes.

iii. Portability

No lock-in.

We chose open, boring formats on purpose. JSON and Markdown are readable by people and by any other software. If you leave Kitchenlore for another service, or for a folder on your own computer, you take a complete copy with you, including the originals.

iv. Ask us

Requests by email.

If you cannot sign in, want a copy of what we hold about you, want something corrected, or want data deleted on behalf of someone who has died, write to privacy@kitchentlore.com. We will confirm the request comes from you, then complete it within 30 days, usually much sooner. There is no charge.
