§ 1
Getting started
How do I save my first recipe?
Sign up, open your book, and choose Add a recipe. Upload a photo of a card, paste text, or (on Keeper and Heirloom) upload a voice memo. Kitchenlore reads it and shows you the finished page with the original beside it. Check it, then save.
Can I try it without an account?
Yes. The rescue demo on the homepage reads a card without signing up. Pick one of our sample cards or upload your own photo. Nothing is saved until you create an account.
What does the free plan include?
Five recipes and one family book, with card photos and pasted text, library illustrations, and Markdown and reading PDF export. No card required, no time limit.
What if a recipe comes back wrong?
You can edit any part of the structured recipe: amounts, steps, title, chapter. The original source never changes, and In her words quotes can be removed but not rewritten, because they must match the source.
§ 2
Photos and cards
How should I photograph a card?
Lay it flat on a plain, darker surface, near a window in daylight. Hold the phone directly above it so the card is square in the frame and fills most of it. Turn off the flash, which bleaches faint pencil. Take the back too if there is writing there.
What file types can I upload?
JPEG, PNG and WebP photos straight from your phone or a scanner. iPhones usually convert HEIC photos to JPEG when you upload from the browser. If a photo is refused, save it as a JPEG first and try again.
Why does my recipe have [hard to read] marks?
Because Kitchenlore could not read those spots with confidence and will not guess. A sharper photo sometimes helps. Otherwise, you or anyone with the contribute role can fill each spot from memory, and the fill is signed with your name.
Can it read cursive, old typewriter cards, or two languages?
Usually, yes. Cursive, pencil, typewritten cards with handwritten corrections and cards mixing languages are all read line by line. The card stays in its own language unless you ask for a translation.
§ 3
Voice memos
Which plans include voice memos?
Keeper and Heirloom. The memo is transcribed word for word, then structured into a recipe, and the full transcript stays with it.
What audio formats work?
The common ones from phones and messaging apps: M4A, MP3, WAV, WebM and OGG. You can forward a memo out of a chat app by saving it first, then uploading it.
She switches between languages. Will that work?
Yes. The transcript keeps what she said, in the languages she said it. Nothing is translated unless you ask.
The memo is noisy. What can I do?
Words that cannot be heard clearly are marked [hard to read] rather than guessed. For new recordings, put the phone close to the person, away from the fan and the running tap.
§ 5
Printing
How do I get a printed book?
On Heirloom, export the print-ready edition: a 6 by 9 inch interior PDF with bleed. Upload it to any print-on-demand service and order as many copies as you like. You pay the printer directly.
Can I print on the free plan?
You can export a reading PDF and print it at home. The print-ready edition, laid out for a bound book, is part of Heirloom.
Will [hard to read] marks show in print?
Yes, unless the family has filled them. The book shows what the card said. Fills print with the name of the person who made them.
§ 6
Account and billing
How do I change or cancel my plan?
In Settings, go to Plan and billing. You can switch plans or cancel at any time. If you cancel, you keep your book on the free plan.
How do I export everything?
Settings, then Your data. You get a JSON file of the whole account, Markdown for each book, and a reading PDF. Originals can be downloaded from each recipe.
How do I delete my account?
Settings, then Delete the account. It is a real delete: your books, recipes, photos, memos and transcripts are removed immediately, and backups age out within 30 days. Export first if you want a copy.
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. We will email you a single-use link that expires.
