What we collect, why we collect it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. Written to be read, not skimmed.

This policy explains how Kitchenlore Inc. (“Kitchenlore”, “we”, “us”), a Delaware C-Corporation headquartered at 125 North First Street, Suite 410, Minneapolis, MN 55401, handles personal information when you use kitchentlore.com, our app, and related services (together, the “Service”).

The short version: your recipes are yours. We use them to run the Service and for nothing else. We do not sell personal information, we do not run advertising, and family recipes are never used to train AI models.

1. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your name, email address and a password, which we store only as a bcrypt hash.
  • Family content: photos of recipe cards, voice memos, pasted text, the transcripts and structured recipes made from them, illustrations, fills, chapters and book titles.
  • Sharing details: the email addresses of people you invite to a book, and their role.
  • Messages: what you send us through our contact, help and careers forms or by email.
  • Billing details: if you subscribe, our payment processor Stripe collects your card and billing address. We receive only a customer reference, your plan, the last four digits of your card and its expiry month and year.

Information collected automatically

  • Essential cookies that keep you signed in and protect forms. See our cookie policy.
  • Service logs: IP address, browser type, the pages and API routes requested, and errors. We use these to keep the Service running, prevent abuse and fix problems.

We do not use advertising trackers, analytics pixels or third-party tracking cookies.

Information about other people

Family recipes often include names, stories and voices of relatives, some of whom have died. Please upload only content you have a right to share with us. We treat this content with the same care as your own, and we handle requests from families about it through care@kitchentlore.com.

2. How we use it

  • To provide the Service: read cards, transcribe memos, structure recipes, illustrate them, build and share your books, and produce exports.
  • To run your account: sign-in, verification and password reset emails, invitations, and billing.
  • To answer you when you write to us.
  • To keep the Service safe: preventing fraud, spam and abuse, and investigating security issues.
  • To improve the Service, using aggregate measures such as how often readings succeed. We do not read your recipes to do this.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We never use family recipes, photos, memos or transcripts to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s. We will never clone or synthesize anyone’s voice.

3. Who processes it for us

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Kitchenlore, under contracts that limit their use to providing services to us:

  • Vercel, for hosting.
  • Turso, our managed database provider.
  • OpenAI and Anthropic, to read cards, transcribe memos and structure recipes. They receive the content being processed. Under their API terms, they do not use API data to train their models.
  • Stripe, for payments.
  • Resend, to send email.

Content in a shared book is visible to the people its owner invites. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy, or one at least as protective, will continue to apply. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is open. When you delete a recipe, a book or your account, we delete it from our database immediately. Encrypted backups age out within 30 days. Service logs are kept for up to 30 days. Form messages are kept for up to two years so we can follow up, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Billing records are kept by Stripe as long as tax law requires.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Access and export: download everything at any time from Settings, then Export. See your data.
  • Correction: edit your account and recipes in the app, or ask us.
  • Deletion: delete content or your account from Settings, or ask us.
  • Sharing: remove anyone from a book at any time.
  • Email: we send only account and service emails. There is no marketing list unless you ask to join one.

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have additional rights to know, access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to appeal our decision on a request. We give these rights to all users, wherever they live. Write to privacy@kitchentlore.com. We will verify the request and respond within 30 days, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.

6. Security

We use TLS for every connection, encryption at rest through our hosting and database providers, bcrypt for passwords, and least-privilege access for our team. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you promptly. See our security page.

7. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. A family book may include a child’s name in a recipe’s story; accounts themselves are for adults and teens 13 and older. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

8. Where data is processed

We are based in the United States and process data in the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email account holders at least 14 days before the change takes effect and update the date above.
